Eating your Way to Healthy Skin
While topical application of apple is great for the skin’s surface, we also recommend feeding your body and skin from the inside. We stand by the tried and true “apple a day” saying, and recommend you do the same. Here are two of our favorite apple recipe ideas for fall, in case you want to swap your crisp bite of fresh fruit for something a little more decadent
- 3 cinnamon sticks (3 inches)
- 3 whole cloves
- 2 whole allspice
- 1 bay leaf
- 3 quarts apple cider or apple juice
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- Dash salt
- 1 to 1-1/2 cups brandy, optional
Create a spice bag using two layers of cheesecloth and place the cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice and bay leaf in it; close the bag using kitchen string.
In a large saucepan, steep spice bag in a mixture of apple cider, orange and lemon juices, orange peel, brown sugar and salt. Bring to a boil; then, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 30 minutes.
Carefully pull out the spice bag. Then, strain the cider mixture.
Serve immediately, with or without brandy..
